Description
An increasing number of children are attending outside school hours settings in Australia. It is during this stage of their lives that children understand themselves as unique individuals with distinct ideas and perspectives to contribute, and this development must be supported in outside school hours environments.
This Research in Practice Series book describes practical strategies for educators to collaborate with children in outside school hours care (OSHC) settings. It draws on contemporary research undertaken in OSHC about:
- observation in Playwork
- intentionality in understanding wellbeing and development
- building relationships and recognising children as active citizens
- critical reflection through listening and talking with children.
Educators need to be caring and responsive to collaborate with children. Collaborative initiatives co-designed with children ensure high-quality opportunities are provided for children beyond the school day.
