Description

Wendy Notly is a non-Aboriginal early childhood trained teacher, songwriter and co-producer of the CD, Growin’ Up Strong by Aunty Wendy’s Mob. ‘Aunty’ is a term used in the Aboriginal community as a sign of respect and acceptance.

Growin’ Up Strong is a collection of children’s songs with an Aboriginal perspective, inspired by Wendy’s many years of teaching Aboriginal children at Murawina Multi-Purpose Aboriginal Education Centre in Redfern, Sydney. Murawina was established by Aboriginal women in the early 1070’s and continues to serve the Aboriginal community.

This Teacher Resource Book supports the CD, providing background information and teaching notes. It enables non-Aboriginal teachers to easily implement an Aboriginal perspective into their classroom programs. The teaching notes are structured so that:

  • each song can stand alone or be used in conjunction with the other songs on the CD
  • the songs can be adapted to the individual needs of students from early childhood to lower primary
  • minimal teacher preparation is required
  • activities can be adapted to suit whole class or group work.
