About the Author:
Dr. Rebecca Isbell is a director of Tennessee’s Centre of Excellence in Early Childhood Learning and Development and professor of Early Childhood Education at East Tennessee State University, where she received the Distinguished Faculty Award for Outstanding Teaching. Dr Isbell is a former teacher of toddlers, preschoolers and primary children. She has been the director of a model lab school for young children that was nationally accredited. She has develop and implemented an undergraduate and graduate program in Early Childhood Education that received NAEYC approval. Recently, Dr Isbell collaborated with early childhood faculty to create a Ph.D. program in Early Childhood Education at East Tennessee State University. She teaches several of the courses in this advanced degree program. Dr Isbell has written more that 10 books including The Complete Learning Center Book, revised Early Learning Environments that Work, and Real Classroom Makeovers. She has made presentations thoughout the United States and internationally in Canada, China, Denmark, and Singapore.
Dr. Shirley Raines is President of the University of Memphis and Professor if Education. She is a past president of the Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI) and a former classroom teacher, Head Start director, and child care center director. Dr Raines has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in the creative development of young children at a number of universities and colleges. She has been a strong advocate for quality programs for all young children. Dr. Raines has many publications, including the story S-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-r-s series for preschool and Primary children, and coauthored Stories: Children’s Literature in Early Education.
